This is with reference to the article “Changing western perception of Muslims” (June 4) by Sabria S. Jawhar. I think that the West does not want to find the truth. It is not that difficult to understand the viewpoint of majority of Muslims across the world. The problem is that they just want to focus on the negative propaganda and form their opinion based on the ugly rhetoric of a handful of people who support the deviant ideology.
Otherwise, there are many Muslims living in the West and are very productive members of the societies they are part of. In today’s world, it is not difficult to learn about other people, faiths and cultures. One does not need to rely solely on the electronic media. Social media is playing a crucial role but one cannot convince somebody who does not want to hear anything positive about a particular community. There is a huge number of westerners who don’t subscribe to the anti-Islam views spread by various media outlets and so-called analysts but they don’t get the chance to express their views. Noam Chomsky is a good example. He is rarely seen on mainstream media. — Rauf Khaled, Dammam
