I read with interest the article “Reality check for Erdogan” (June 10) by Mahir Ali. I personally admire Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Despite his recent decisions that earned him the ire of Turkish people, one could not deny the fact that the credit of a prosperous Turkey goes to him and his policies. Erdogan and his political party should see the result of the election as a warning and they should immediately revisit their policies in the greater good of the country and the countrymen. Despite being an admirer of Erdogan, I feel that his haughty behavior was not commendable. He is a nice person and should not lose his cool. That is exactly what his domestic and foreign opponents want.
During the past few months, he provided his critics with the opportunity to criticize him and his policies. Anyway, it is not too late. He should undo what he has done. The electoral loss should not be seen as a failure. I think it is a divine warning. I hope that Erdogan and his party will soon chalk out an effective strategy to once again win the hearts and minds of the Turks. — Yaseen Ahmed, Dammam
