I read with interest the article “Are western leaders above the law” (June 18) by Abdulateef Al-Mulhim. I agree with the views expressed by the writer in his hard-hitting article. This hypocritical attitude of the world is the cause of all problems we see around the globe.
However, the western attitude toward Blair or Bush does not justify in any manner the wrongdoings of any other leader in our part of the world. Anyway that is a debate for some other time.
The writer should have also been similarly critical of George W. Bush. After all, he was the main culprit. Just because George W. Bush has disappeared from the public or media scene does not exonerate him of his war crimes.
At least the United Kingdom has questioned Tony Blair’s actions during his tenure as the prime minister of the country.
The Chilcot report has taken six long years, an inquiry on the illegal invasion of Iraq by Blair and Bush. But it is unlikely to be published for another year at least. British Prime Minister David Cameron is now under pressure to scrap the inquiry since the mechanism has turned out to be just a white elephant and with no result so far. This is really outrageous and appears to be a conspiracy by those involved. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis as well as British soldiers lost their lives in that military misadventure. Due to the war, 4.5 million people have been rendered refugees in their own land and in the neighboring countries. — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
