This refers to the news report “Kingdom vows to stamp out terrorism” (Aug. 11)
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif has rightly termed these terrorists as Khawarijites (outlaws) who have nothing to do with Islam. Rather, they show all signs of the elements that seem to have been foisted on the Muslim world by anti-Islam forces and which will come to light sooner than later.
It is not just a culture of hatred that these criminals are spreading but it smacks of a very calculated plan to malign Islam.
This phenomenon that presents a completely new image of Islam — militant and violent — has begun with the start of the 21st century: 9/11, to be specific. This trend is new but has all the stamps of several such incidents that have occurred in the past.
The terrorists are indeed, as the crown prince has said, devoid of all religious, moral and human values and their deviant thoughts have no link with Islam.
Saudi Arabia is certainly a place of security and stability and it is fighting the evil with all its might. Yet, I think, we must get to the roots of the scourge. — Zakir Hussain, Makkah
