TEHRAN: Iran has closed its main border crossing post into Turkey after an Iranian truck was torched in a fresh attack on vehicles entering from the country, state television said Wednesday.

The report did not say who carried out the attack or what the motive was, but there has been growing unrest in Turkey in recent weeks involving Kurdish separatists.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, one Turkish soldier and two suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were killed in clashes in the southeast that erupted when the Kurdish rebels attacked a military post, the army said.

Militants launched an attack with guns and rockets on the command post in the village of Ozekli outside the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, the army said.

One soldier died of his wounds in hospital while five others were injured, it said, adding that the assault had been carried out by the “Separatist Terror Organization,” its usual term for the PKK.
