Dubai has issued warnings to the owners of seven abandoned buildings in city.

Civic body officials said that the warning is part of plans to keep the city clean and safe.

According to the notice, the owners have to demolish the buildings within a week. Otherwise the civic body will carry out the demolition and will charge to owners.

A top officer said that Dubai Municipality is keen on taking strict action against abandoned buildings in Dubai in order to maintain the aesthetic beauty of the city and to ensure the public health and safety.

The abandoned buildings are located in different areas — Al-Batteen, Al-Hamriya, Naif, Al-Sabkha, Al-Raffa and Al-Ras. The city is home to over 910 high rises.

Khalid Mohammed Salih, director of Building Department, Dubai Municipality, said: “Random inspections will be carried out in residential and commercial areas.”

Jabir Ahmed Al-Ali, head of the building inspection section, said: “Illegal additions to buildings are causing electricity overload on the cables and has caused fires in many instances.”
