According to news reports, the UN General Assembly recently expressed serious concern over persecution of Rohingyas of Rakhine state by Myanmar security forces and Buddhist Rakhines. The UN body urged the Myanmar government to ensure the rights of Muslim Rohingyas in the country. We all know that the Burmese govt is not obliged to comply with the UN request. Therefore, the UN must take stern steps to compel Myanmar’s President Thein Sein to take the necessary action. Also the UN should fulfill the demand of displaced Rohingyas of ensuring tougher punishment for those who killed, raped, looted and torched their houses.
