The 2012 Kalayaan Cup, an annual bowling event organized by the Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR) in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day, is all set with 30 teams participating.
The event will be held on June 6 to 8 at the Universal Bowling Center in Riyadh. The main sponsors of the event are Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Etihad Airways, House of Donuts, Al-Tayyar Travel Group, Gandour Chocolates, Forever Living, Alinma Bank, Al Safi Danone, NADEC, Riyadh Pro Shop and McDonald’s Saudi Arabia.
Up for grabs in the team, doubles, singles, all events and Masters competitions are cash prizes, trophies and medals, mobile phones and two return air tickets to Manila.
The 30 participating teams are Himagsikan, Libertad, Magdiwang, La Liga Filipinos, La Solidaridad, La Propaganda, HOD Bonifacio, HOD Rizal, Biak Na Bato, Simoun, Mananakop, Pinaglabanan, El Archipelago, Aiste Masu, Mga Anak Ni Sisa, Inang Bayan, Mandirigma, Gabriela Silang, Di Palulupig, KKK, Matang Lawin, Bandila, Katipunan, Mga Tinik Ni Eba, Gomburza, Noli Me Tangere, Panday Pira, Perlas Ng Silangan, Hukbalahap and El Filibusterismo. The team names were taken from Philippine history and the participants are bowling enthusiasts and aficionados from Riyadh.
Ernee Noto, UFTBR chairman, and Cesar De Mesa, event chairman, would like to thank all the sponsors, participating teams and all individual donors for their support and generosity. Everyone is invited to witness three days of bowling competition and fun.

Neneng Batumbakal upset league leader Itqan Aces 19-11 and inched closer to the second spot and the right to challenge the Aces in the semifinal and final rounds of the UFTBR-Thales Sunday Bowling League at the Universal Bowling Center here. Not to be outdone, Habagat demolished Alwan Micronizers 21-5 and captured the Team of the Week honors.
In other matches, Bandar Strikers narrowly beat Itqan Storm 15-14, UnicaAldrei defeated Bowleros 18-14, Saudi Oger downed SACO Bolts and Nuts 19-10, Itqan Tenpin Wizards crushed Philippine Embassy 21-2 and Itqan Strikers defeated Thales 18-16.
Named bowlers of the week were Anthony Fallorina (949 series) and Johnny Penecilla (946). Ronald Bautista of Batumbakal still leads in the men’s MVP race with an average of 218.85 followed by CelisViloria (214.00) and Ernee Noto (212.12). In the ladies MVP race, Lulu Quejada regained the lead with an average of 181.51 followed by Beth Danganan (181.57) and Cheng Herosa (180.03).
