Pakistanis living in the Kingdom are hopeful that the new government to be elected in the upcoming national polls would pull the country out of the current chaos and economic crisis.
Most of them blame the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government for the economic meltdown the country has suffered due to corruption and mismanagement.
The interim setup is in place but politicians are jockeying for better positions to ensure their election to the assemblies, say expat Pakistanis.
“The outgoing government did nothing for the common man,” said Jeddah-based Pakistani businessmen Abdul Jabbar.
“Burgeoning inflation and the energy crisis were the gifts given by the PPP government,” said Jabbar.
“We need sincere leadership to steer the country out of the mess. We need leaders who would strive for national development rather than stash wealth abroad,” he added.
PPP leader Aziz Ahmed said former President Pervez Musharraf’s return to Pakistan is not going to make any difference.
He said voters were switching sides because of mistakes committed by the PPP government.
Dilshad Jani, media coordinator of the PPP, Jeddah chapter, defended the performance of the outgoing government saying, the current government strengthened democratic institutions. Jani said Musharraf’s party would not be able to win even five parliamentary seats.
Another PPP leader Riaz Bukhari said his party had strengthened democracy in the county. This is a major achievement, he claimed.
Hafiz Tahir from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party said the people should elect sincere leaders who would place Pakistan on the path of prosperity.
