The Communications and Information Technology Commission may allow telecom companies to provide free roaming services to mobile users in the Kingdom to receive calls while visiting abroad.
The Shoura Council yesterday agreed that CITC could instruct telecom companies to provide the service while taking security measures to prevent misuse of the service.
The consultative body took the decision while discussing the annual report of CITC, based on a proposal made by a member. The Shoura discussed various aspects of the proposal, said Fahad Al-Hamad, assistant president, adding the majority of members supported the proposal.
One member said the CITC had a plan to provide free roaming service to receive calls under certain regulations, adding that the proposal supported the commission’s move.
The Shoura also instructed the Human Resources Development Fund to support job seekers registered with Hafiz until they receive jobs.
