The new Encyclopedia of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is a compendium of information about the Kingdom and will serve as a reliable reference work for students and researchers in the Kingdom and abroad, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
“The website of the encyclopedia launched by Deputy Foreign Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, who is also the member of the board of directors of the King Abdulaziz Public Library (KAPL), will serve as a window to all aspects of Saudi social life in the present and the past.
It familiarizes the Saudi culture, economy and tourism, geographical features, archaeological sites, social patterns and customs, utilities, natural resources and wild life among other things,” the agency said.
The Royal approval for the encylopedia project was issued to the KAPL in November 2001. The task was undertaken because the need for a work with documented and detailed information about the Kingdom was strongly felt particularly by students and researchers.
The KAPL has taken special care to ensure the credibility of the information supplied in the encyclopedia. The writing and editing of the work have been completed under the supervision of experts in related fields.
The advisory committee of the encylopedia is headed by Supervisor General of the KAPL Faisal Muammar with members from the Shoura Council, universities, ministries and government departments.
