The Saudi Digital Library (SDL), affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education, participated in the three-day 19th Annual Conference of the Libraries Association 2013 (Arabian Gulf Chapter), which ended yesterday. The theme of the conference was “Future of the Profession: Break the Barrier of Traditional Profession and Tune in to the Future of Digital Professional Environment.”
More than 350 library professionals in the Gulf took part in the conference.
Abdul Hameed Al-Suleiman, adviser at the Ministry of Higher Education and supervisor general of SDL, said the conference involved discussions, including on a topic called the Digital Content Project 2014, workshop, and meeting with publishers.
The event also served as a stage for the meeting of experts in the Arab world and other countries, he said.
The conference represents the most important IT event in the GCC countries. It is organized every year for professionals and academics in the information technology field. It provides an opportunity to discuss key issues and topics, facilitating communication and networking, and cooperation between them.
The SDL provides information material to faculties in institutions of higher learning, researchers, and students at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels besides professionals in various fields on the website: www.sdl.edu.sa.
The SDL, which contains 114,000 reference works in all areas of modern science and humanities, keeps its contents updated and has agreements with 300 publishers the world over. It also offers a digital environment for all the universities in the Kingdom.
