Parents of students at the International Indian School in Jubail voted in a new seven-member managing committee.
Mohammed Taher Mohiuddin from the Indian state of Karnataka won the most votes in Friday’s elections.
An academic, Mohiuddin received 615 votes. He is deputy chairperson at the mechanical engineering department of Jubail Industrial College.
Mohiuddin was previously associated with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran.
Around 1,000 out of 3,198 eligible voters cast their votes. The voting percentage was 31.58.
Among the prominent winners were Buddaraju Satyanarayana Raju (Andhra Pradesh, 584 votes); Atiqur Rahman (Andhra Pradesh, 570 votes); Nishad P.A. (Kerala, 564 votes); Naseeruddin Ansari (Bihar, 500 votes); Masthan Zakir Hussain (Tamil Nadu, 489 votes); Dr. Nasim Ahmed (Uttar Pradesh, 474 votes); V.K. Vyas (Orissa, 459 votes); Haneef Mohammed Sathoo (Jammu and Kashmir, 454 votes) and Peer Mohamed (Maharashtra, 445 votes). The elections were held in a free and fair manner. They were closely monitored by the Ministry of Education’s Khaled Al-Ruwaie and Husain Al-Maqboul and the Indian Embassy’s Awnish Tiwari.
The new committee will manage the school’s affairs for three years in close coordination with the principal. The seven elected members will select a new chairman.
A member who garners the most votes goes on to become chairman.
There was considerable consternation at the defeat of perceived frontrunners Dr. Saleem Khan, Dr. N.J. Suthan Kissinger and Pandippilly Pylie Antony.
The Andhra Pradesh community was particularly delighted with the results. None of the state’s residents had won positions in the school elections held three years ago.
