The General Directorate of Civil Defense in Riyadh has warned citizens and residents in the capital against overloading electrical appliances, which leads to over-heating in the wires and connections and results in short-circuits and fires.
In a communiqué, the directorate issued a cautionary note that the summer season records the highest number of fire accidents.
The advisory requested citizens to switch off electrical appliances that are not needed before going to sleep and especially when traveling during the summer vacation. It also recommended citizens to inspect sockets and wire connections to check that they are not overloaded.
The Civil Defense also called on citizens to follow safety regulations and ensure that the voltage of home appliances and electric devices can withstand the power load. In addition, it urged motorists to inspect their vehicles in preparation for the summer season to avoid pressure on the engines.
