The Agricultural Development Fund has launched an initiative to increase the number of sheep after seeing sheep in the Kingdom drop from 12 million in 2008 to 8.7 million in 2012.
The ADF wants to make the industry sustainable with the preservation of natural resources.
The initiative is the sixth one from the fund that includes the development of methods used by herders, breeding-improvement programs, genetic improvement, feeding methods and medical care. The initiative’s goal is to contribute to food security.
Fund Chairman Abdullah Al-Rubaiaan said the initiative was prepared by teams of consultants. The teams concentrated on preserving distinctive genetic traits of sheep as per development plans.
