This is in reference to the article “With Sharif in saddle, can India, Pakistan break ice?” by Nilofar Suhrawardy on (May 22). In her column, Suhrawardy elaborately discussed the Indo-Pak relations.
As far the results of the recently held elections in Pakistan are concerned, Sharif’s party PML (N) emerged as a largest political party and India hopes that Sharif will revive the ties and bring normalcy in India-Pakistan ties. Indian prime minister has already congratulated Sharif on his spectacular victory and invited him to India. If both the countries show flexibility on their long-standing issues and move beyond their stated positions and find out of box solution to Kashmir, then it is possible that India, Pakistan will be able to break the ice.
The world has undergone tremendously change in the recent past and if these two countries sit together and find solution to their problems, they can a lead in forming a union of South Asian countries on the lines of the European Union, which will give them a greater say in the world power. — Malik Mohammad Amin, Alkhobar
