Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Naif ordered the formation of special teams to fight drug addiction in the Kingdom’s prisons.
The aim is to boost efforts of combating drugs of all kinds and types in prisons of the Kingdom, taking into account the protection of inmates of this lethal habit.
All prisons of the Kingdom embarked on forming such teams, taking special guard by inspecting all persons entering prison premises, including all staff and visitors.
Sources said the ministry wants to achieve the primary role of prisons, which includes the rehabilitation of inmates to be productive and good citizens once they leave the place.
The source denied that drug addiction inside prisons has reached to dangerous levels.
“All prison departments monitor and control the situation well enough, sometimes even arresting a number of visitors with drugs on them while trying to pass the stuff to the inside,” he said.
