Makkah water supply disrupted

The water supply to Makkah will be reduced over the next two days because of a leak in the pipeline from Al-Shoaibah Plant.
There would be no supply from the plant until the leak is fixed, said Sultan Al-Otaibi, spokesman of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in a statement.
The leak appeared after recent repair work, he said.
“The corporation set up a number of emergency teams to tackle the issue. Its technical experts are working around the clock to repair the glitch and resume normal supply in the minimum possible time.”
Meanwhile, other experts are arranging for water supply from the SWCC’s strategic reserve, Al-Otaibi said.
He said the suspension of the supply was instituted in collaboration with the National Water Company so that appropriate steps could be taken to minimize the inconvenience to customers.
He called on all customers to help the SWCC in its efforts to rationalize water consumption.
He said water was a precious commodity and has to be preserved.
