The police have arrested four persons on charges of waylaying and robbing two expatriates — an American and a Sudanese — of their money and other valuables.
According to local media reports, the two expatriates filed separate complaints with Malaz police. The American, in his 40s and working as a teacher with an educational institution in Riyadh, stated that he was stopped by four unidentified persons when he was returning home from work.
The four came in a Camry car, waylaid him and beat him up before they took away his mobile phone, an iPad and his wallet which contained SR 400 besides documents including his ID. He sustained minor injuries in the attack.
The second complainant, a doctor who is also in his 40s, said he was intercepted by four persons who came in a Camry. As in the first case, they beat him up and took off with SR 2,500 in cash and a bag containing his personal papers. Both the complainants said they could not take down the registration number of the vehicles.
Following the complaints, the Riyadh Regional Police Commander ordered immediate Investigation into the incidents and the Criminal Research staff swung into action to track down the suspects.
The cops spread out in the district and began gathering information from their sources. They zeroed in onto the suspects with the help of the description given by the two complainants and closely monitored their movements.
All the four who were subsequently arrested confessed to the crime following intense interrogation. They were also identified by the complainants.
The four also reportedly admitted to stealing two Camry cars from Salihiyya District and the car parking of Iman Hospital in southern Riyadh and used them in the criminal activities.
