Embassy reassures Indians

The Indian Embassy yesterday emphasized that it would continue its efforts to address all issues regarding the welfare of Indians in the Kingdom in accordance with Saudi laws.
“The embassy is fully aware of its responsibilities toward the Indian nationals and it will continue to address all issues of concern for the community within the framework of Saudi laws and regulations,” it said.
The embassy highlighted the strong and historic relations between Saudi Arabia and India and the “strategic partnership” between the two Asian economic giants.
It said there are more than two million Indian workers in the Kingdom.
The embassy thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for the amnesty that provided an opportunity for a large number of expatriates to correct their legal status and get jobs in good companies.
“It also provided an opportunity to many overstaying Indian expatriates to obtain exit without facing any penal action and with no ban on return to Saudi Arabia,” it said.
The embassy has registered a significant number of overstaying Indians in the Kingdom and issued them with travel documents (emergency certificate) to facilitate their return to India. “Many of them were able to obtain their exits from various deportation centers all across the Kingdom,” it said.
The embassy has informed the Saudi authorities at the highest levels including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Labor all issues pertaining to the welfare of the Indian community.
The embassy said it would continue to follow up with the authorities on all the outstanding issues. “Our officials deployed at the mobile helpline counters at Sumaishy Deportation Center and Riyadh International Airport will continue to provide assistance to the Indians who approach them,” it said.
