MIAMI: After the final out, Justin Upton ran to his brother in the Atlanta Braves outfield, and they shared a happy hand slap. Both were key contributors in a victory, which hasn’t happened often this year.
Justin Upton homered, doubled twice and scored three runs, while B.J. had two hits, drove in a run and scored to help the Braves beat the Miami Marlins 6-4 Tuesday night.
“They both had great at-bats,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “It’s a long season. We’re always wishing for more, but there are going to be ups and downs, and you have to be patient with the guys.”
The Braves, who lead the NL in come-from-behind wins, overcame deficits of 3-1 and 4-3.
At Phoenix, Ricky Nolasco gave up four hits over seven innings in his Dodgers debut as surging Los Angeles beat the NL West-leading Diamondbacks 6-1 for its 14th victory in 17 games.
Nolasco (6-8), acquired Saturday in a trade with the Miami Marlins, also doubled and singled, driving in a run and scoring another.
Ian Kennedy (3-5), facing the Dodgers for the first time since serving a 10-game suspension for his role in a bench-clearing brawl a month ago in Los Angeles, allowed six runs, five earned, and nine hits in 5 2-3 innings. He hit Ramirez with a pitch in the first inning.
The Phillies won their third straight game with a 4-2 victory over the Nationals. Cole Hamels threw eight sharp innings and Michael Young hit a two-run double for Philadelphia, which has now on six of its last eight games.
At Milwaukee, Wily Peralta tossed a three-hitter for his first career shutout and Logan Schafer hit his first homer, a two-run shot that lifted Milwaukee to a 2-0 victory over Cincinnati.
Peralta struck out six and walked four for his first complete game. It also was the Brewers’ first shutout and complete game of the season.
Elsewhere, Marlon Byrd’s two-out grand slam capped a five-run eighth inning as the Mets beat the Giants 10-6, while San Diego edged Colorado 2-1.
In the American League, Adrian Beltre went 4 for 4 with two homers and a season-high five RBIs to help the surging Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-4.
Beltre hit a solo shot in the second inning and a three-run drive in the fifth, both off Zach Britton (2-3). Beltre has six home runs in his last six games and is batting .488 (21 for 43) during an 11-game hitting streak that began on June 28.
Texas has won 14 of 19 to move a season-high 16 games over .500 (53-37) — level for the second-best record in franchise history after 90 games.
At Detroit, Alex Rios equaled an AL record with six hits in a nine-inning game and Adam Dunn hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off Justin Verlander in the eighth to lift the Chicago White Sox to an 11-4 win over the Tigers.
Dayan Vicideo’s second homer of the game helped the White Sox score seven runs in the eighth, and they added three more in the ninth to surpass a season high for scoring.
Miguel Cabrera hit his 29th homer to give him a major league-high 92 RBIs. The last-place White Sox, who had lost four straight, finished with a season-high 23 hits and a season high in runs.
In other games, Kansas City had a 3-1 win over the Yankees and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a tiebreaking homer as the Red Sox snapped a three-game skid with an 11-8 win over Seattle.
