BALTIMORE: Chris Davis hit his 35th homer, Adam Jones and J.J. Hardy each had a three-run shot and the Baltimore Orioles beat Mark Buehrle and the Toronto Blue Jays 8-5 Friday night.
Davis upped his major league-leading home run total with a two-run drive in the second inning. Only Barry Bonds (39 in 2001), Mark McGwire (37 in 1998) and Reggie Jackson (37 in 1969) hit more homers before the All-Star break.
Jones connected in the third to put the Orioles up 5-3, and Hardy went deep in the sixth for a five-run cushion. All three home runs came off Buehrle (5-6), who had allowed only two long balls in his previous 11 starts.
Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman (11-3) gave up three runs and eight hits in six innings. He has won seven of his last eight starts.
After Toronto’s Adam Lind hit a two-run double off Tommy Hunter with two outs in the ninth, Jim Johnson needed one pitch to get his 32nd save.
Astros 2 Rays 1: In St. Petersburg, Florida, Jarred Cosart took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his major league debut, and helping the Astros beat AL Cy Young Award winner David Price and ending the Rays’ season-best, eight-game winning streak.
Cosart (1-0) limited the Rays to a pair of walks before All-Star Ben Zobrist singled with one out in the seventh. Evan Longoria grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The 23-year-old right-hander also yielded a single to James Loney in the eighth and was removed after walking pinch hitter Kelly Johnson leading off the ninth. The rookie threw 96 pitches, 54 for strikes.
Carlos Corporan had a two-run single in the first, but that was it for the Astros against Price (3-5), who allowed eight hits while throwing his second straight complete game.
Red Sox 4 Athletics 2: In Oakland, California, Dustin Pedroia hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning, and the Red Sox beat the Athletics in a matchup of the AL’s top teams.
John Lackey (7-6) overcame a season-high four walks in seven innings to carry the AL-leading Red Sox to their fourth straight victory. He allowed two runs and three hits while striking out five.
Andrew Bailey, a two-time All-Star closer for the A’s from 2009-2011, tossed a scoreless eighth. Koji Uehara pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.
Sean Doolittle (3-3) allowed one hit and hit a batter before Ryan Cook gave up Pedroia’s two-out single.
Yankees 2 Twins 0: In New York, Hiroki Kuroda pitched five innings, the last after a long rain delay, and the Yankees beat the Twins for the fifth time in two weeks.
Brett Gardner and Robinson Cano had RBI singles in the fifth inning off the Twins bullpen after the Yankees had no success against Scott Diamond ahead of a 1-hour, 13-minute delay.
Boone Logan struck out the side in the seventh after relieving Preston Claiborne with two on. David Robertson was perfect in the eighth and Mariano Rivera finished off the eight-hitter for his 30th save.
New York played without captain Derek Jeter after he strained his right quadriceps in his first game this season on Thursday. Jeter will not play in this series and the Yankees will re-evaluate after the All-Star break.
Mariners 8 Angels 3: In Seattle, Raul Ibanez homered twice to power Seattle to the victory.
Kyle Seager and Kendrys Morales also connected as the Mariners set a franchise record by homering in their 20th consecutive game. They did it in 19 straight from Sept. 7-27, 1999.
The 41-year-old Ibanez had a leadoff drive in the fourth and another solo shot in the seventh, giving him 24 homers for the year. It was his third multihomer game of the season and No. 19 for his career.
Joe Saunders (8-8) worked seven scoreless innings, improving to 5-3 with a 2.52 ERA in his last eight starts.
Jerome Williams (5-5) lasted just 3 1-3 innings for Los Angeles. He was charged with six runs and seven hits.
Indians 3 Royals 0: In Cleveland, Corey Kluber pitched into the eighth inning and pinch hitter Michael Bourn had a big two-run double, leading the Indians to the win.
Kluber (7-5) allowed three hits and struck out eight in 7 2-3 innings. The right-hander worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fifth.
Joe Smith recorded the final out in the eighth and Cody Allen struck out Jarrod Dyson with the bases loaded for his second save. The five-hitter was Cleveland’s American League-leading 12th shutout.
Royals left-hander Bruce Chen pitched six innings of one-hit ball in his first start of the season. Carlos Santana’s leadoff double in the fifth was Cleveland’s only hit off Chen, who struck out four and walked one while throwing 97 pitches.
Tim Collins (2-4) got the loss. He failed to retire either of the batters he faced in the seventh.
Tigers 7 Rangers 2: In Detroit, Jhonny Peralta’s two-run double highlighted a five-run first inning for AL Central-leading Detroit.
The Tigers scored four runs before making an out when their first six hitters reached base off rookie Justin Grimm (7-7). Doug Fister (7-5) allowed two runs in the fourth but was otherwise sharp for Detroit.
Victor Martinez extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI double in the second that gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Miguel Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly for his 95th RBI of the year.
A.J. Pierzynski homered and had three hits for the Rangers. Grimm left in the fourth because of a sore right forearm.
