Firm fined for causing outage

The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has fined a big construction company SR50,000 for causing a nine-hour power outage in the villages of Sabar and Al-Qadmiah on the Jeddah-Madinah Highway. The power cut led many villagers to file complaints.
After an investigation, the SEC found the construction company responsible for the Haramain train project was at fault because it had cut a land cable with a drill. The SEC fixed the cable and restored electricity to over 800 homes in the villages about 140 km north of Jeddah.
An SEC source said it was the company’s fault because it had not asked for a plan of electricity cable networks in the area.
The SEC had to call in the Sabar police to get the company’s representative to admit to severing the cable, which affected 513 homes in Sabar and 373 in Al-Qadmiah. The cable cost SR 4,664 to fix.
