Well-to-do Pakistani expatriates in the Kingdom were urged to give charity for the less fortunate during the holy month of Ramadan.
Deputy head of the mission and minister at the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh, Khayyam Akbar, made this appeal while addressing community members at an iftar party hosted by Dr. Saeed Ahmad Jutt, president of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) in Riyadh.
Addressing a packed audience, Akbar said that Ramadan is a blessed month, and it is a month to give to the needy. He stressed that according to Islam, good deeds will be richly rewarded during this month.
“I know some of you are magnanimous at heart and already do some charity work, however we need to continue this in a more organized manner through organizations such as Pakistan Doctor’s Group-Riyadh (PDG-R) and Pakistan Culture Group (PCG).
Some Pakistani groups are doing yeoman services to the community, he said, calling his countrymen to emulate the examples of social services set by such organizations.
He also said: “We may be lacking in resources but certainly we do not lack the will power to help to the deserving people.”
Earlier, Rashid Mahmood Butt, senior vice president of PML-N, Riyadh, in his welcome address, introduced Dr. Saeed Ahmad Jutt, the new president of PML-N Riyadh region.
In his speech he called upon the newly elected president to focus on the community as a top priority and serve all expatriates without any discrimination. He also advised him to work closely with the Pakistan Embassy to bring a positive change by working hard to serve the community.
Poet Abdul Razzak Tabassum thrilled the audience with his apt Punjabi poems to suit the occasion. Fayyaz Khan, president of PPP Riyadh, congratulated Dr. Saeed for taking over the responsibility of becoming the president of PML-N. He assured him of his full cooperation.
Poet Waqar Naseem Wamiq of Halqa-e-Fikr-o-Funn, entertained the audience with his devotional and patriotic verses in Urdu.
President Jutt proposed the vote of thanks by extending at the end of the Iftar dinner reception. He assured the community of his best of services ffor its welfare. He mentioned that he would work with the Embassy toward solving problems of the community.
