A family grieving over the death of a girl member had to go through the additional ordeal of being told that the body they had taken from the King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Buraidah was someone else's. Following the mistake, caused by human error, the funeral of the Saudi girl had to be put off till after Asr prayers.
The mistake was discovered at the designated place for washing the deceased.
Salah bin Muhammad Al-Khazzaz, general director of Qassim Health Affairs, has ordered an investigation into the incident to fix responsibility for the mistake and initiate action in accordance with the law.
In a press statement, the Qassim Health Affairs Department said the mistake occurred when an employee or employees taking care of the procedures did not go through the process properly before handing over the body of the girl to her parents.
The statement said that the error was discovered by the warden of the hospital’s mortuary who immediately contacted the designated place for washing the dead to return the body which was delivered by mistake. They later handed over the body of the girl to her parents.
A relative of the deceased girl expressed his displeasure over the error which caused much confusion, in addition to their grief over the death of their daughter.
He pointed out that relatives came from far off places to attend the prayers and burial, but the mistake forced them to postpone the arrangements for prayers and burial to after Asr prayers.
