Maid held in attempted murder of widow

Makkah police were investigating an incident in which a housemaid allegedly attempted to murder her Saudi widow employer on Wednesday.
The Azizya Police Center in Makkah, its Criminal Investigation Department and the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIPP) determined that the maid entered the widow’s bedroom when she was lying on bed after performing morning prayers on Tuesday.
Police said the housemaid, who is originally from Ethiopia, took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim in the face and under the eyes.
The victim also sustained a deep cut on the neck. Another stab wound penetrated the shoulders and into the middle of the chest. The victim also sustained wounds to the hands and the shoulders.
Despite her wounds, the widow phoned her brother and told him what had occurred. The brother then phoned his sister's neighbors, told them about the attack, and asked them to tend to his sister until he arrived at her house in the Azizya neighborhood.
When the neighbors arrived, they heard voices and cries of distress inside the flat and broke the door down. They allegedly confronted the maid, who attempted to stab them, according to the police.
The maid managed to run away and the neighbors took the victim to the emergency unit at the Noor Specialized Hospital.
Police later arrested the maid, who was hiding in the stairwell in the same building.
The widow required more than 50 stitches and remains in intensive care.
