Crimes against humanity

This is with reference to Aijaz Zaka Syed’s article (Aug. 8). “There is very little to celebrate this year’s Eid.” The writer seems to be biased in favor of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). According to Syed, Jamaat-e-Islami’s crime was their loyalty to the idea of Pakistan. This observation is not based on facts.
In fact the JI is more guilty than the Pakistan Army in committing crimes against humanity in the guise of “loyalty to the idea of Pakistan.” The writer should refer to history books to find out about Al-Shams and Al-Badr squads of the JI and the atrocities they committed against the Bengali population of the then East Pakistan. The Mukti Bahini acted in response to those crimes. As a writer you can express your opinion but do not have the moral authority to pass judgments based on favoritism and personal likings. — Mohammad Aslam Shahab, Sharjah
