Being blessed with Eid holidays, I was excited that for once I could watch the fourth Test played at Durham between England and the visiting team Australia.
During the four-day battle between the two rivals, we saw the fall of 40 wickets. 11 out of those were claimed by that tall fellow fondly called by his friends “Broady.”
Stuart Broad originally started his career as an opening batsman, following in the footsteps of his father, the former England opener and current ICC match referee, Chris Broad.
The younger Broad is now a successful right-arm fast medium bowler and a left hand batsman down the order.
The just concluded fourth Test was poised for an interesting finish until Australia lost its first wicket after a promising century opening stand. Suddenly England started to turn the table on the visitors and triggered a procession of the batsmen. There were four outstanding performances during the game: Roger’s and Bell’s centuries, Hariss’ 7/113 and the Man of the Match, Broad’s best ever 11/121 match haul. On the whole the visitors looked little disoriented with the English conditions and Shane Watson was the biggest disappointment in both batting and bowling. So, England won the fourth Test and the Ashes series. I think I can spare watching the fifth Test since the result will not change anything and therefore it just remains a formality! Well done England! — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
