Two sisters die in heavy floods in Qunfudha

Two sisters have been reported dead at Khamise Harb, west of Qunfudha Province as a result of the flash floods that swept the area last week. The floods also affected a number of administrative centers in the province.
Heavy rainfall has seriously affected valleys and plains, most prominently the giant Qanouna valley, 70 km to the east of Qunfudha.
According to witnesses the younger of the two sisters, two years old, was washed over by the flood when she was playing near the edge of the valley and her sister met the same fate as she rushed to save her sibling.
An Arab expatriate tried to help by pulling out the two bodies and administering first aid, however to no avail. With his help, the girls’ family transferred them to the nearest medical center in Khamis Harb, yet unfortunately they passed away on the way.
In a related incident, Civil Defense teams in Jazan in cooperation with the security aviation successfully managed to rescue eight citizens trapped by the heavy rainwater in Wadi Al-Jib, north east of the province. They also assisted 17 picnickers out of the park in the same valley.
Brig. Hassan Al-Qafili, director of Jazan Civil Defense, said in a press release that the eight people trapped by the floods, were found sitting on a high rock in the valley. “All of them are in good health,” he reassured.
He explained that the other 17 picnickers and 6 vehicles were trapped in the same valley and did not sustain any injuries.
Al-Qafili praised the efforts of the security aviation and their rapid response in the search and rescue operations, stressing the necessity of following direc tions and warnings issued by the Civil Defense.
