Hani Bin Mohammed Abu Ras, Jeddah mayor, joined twitterverse last week in an attempt to connect with the city’s residents in a direct way, the mayor tweeted.
Mayor Hani Bin Mohammed Abu Ras (@HMaburas), who is in his third year at the city municipality, like other Saudi governmental officials and figures has also joined Twitter in the past.
“I hope everyone feels free to send their ideas for Jeddah’s new projects,” Mayor Abu Ras first tweeted. Abu Ras is not new to social media; the mayor also owns a Facebook account, which he uses regularly to update citizens with the city’s future development course.
Several followers viewed the mayors’ move as a positive step toward improving communication between decision makers in the municipality and the general public. Less than 200 followers’ tweeps is still considered a meager figure on the social media website, which is something the mayor has to keep working hard on in order to gain a larger number of followers.
