MoH launches health awareness campaign for students

With five million children going to school, the Ministry of Health will launch a massive health awareness campaign among students, parents and teachers on Sunday.
Health Ministry spokesman Khalid Al-Mirghalani said the campaign is part of the MoH program to educate the members of various segments of society on a variety of health issues that need ideas and clarification.
“The program is a continuation of the health awareness program, which the ministry has been working on for the past six months,” the spokesman said, recalling that the last was the “Hello Ramadan” program, which was a hit during the holy month.
The new program, dubbed “my health, my school” will begin Sunday and last for more than a week.
People can call the toll free number on 8002494444 during office hours and get clarification on any issues related to health of their school-going children.
Dr. Abdul Hamid Abdullah Habib, consultant psychiatrist and general director of social and mental health, will be available on this line on Sunday to help parents and students with their queries.
Al-Mirghalani said the psychiatrist will focus on how to prepare children for school without forcing them to go to a new environment. Children, he said, are in need of validation and recognition.
Wafa Murraya Ahmed Ahmed Aseeri, head of the kindergarten unit at the Ministry of Education, will be available from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday to talk about the importance of directing children’s behavior patterns and modifying them, especially with the beginning of each new school year. She will also advise parents on how to put their children to sleep.
On Wednesday, Fadheela Abdul Rahman Al-Nasiyan, director of education of model schools, will enlighten callers on problems related to teens and drugs. She will also advise parents on how to deal with their teenage children.
