Prince Saud bin Naif, governor of the Eastern Province, commended the Ministry of Agriculture for it efforts and various activities undertaken by it to promote agricultural development in the Kingdom.
Prince Saud made the comments during his visit to the Al-Ahsa Palm and Dates Festival. The festival has been organized under the theme “Dates Have Homeland” and was launched last Tuesday at the King Abdullah Environmental Park.
Prince Saud was earlier briefed on the Authority’s efforts in purchasing dates from farmers and packaging them using the latest techniques to achieve the aspirations of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz and His Highness the Crown Prince.
During the first three days since its launch, the festival achieved sales of SR4,249,855. According to statistics, 1,188 cars entered the auction.
Traders expect that the auction will witness an increase in the percentage of sales in the coming days. The sales process was organized and enriched by the implementation of the festival regulatory sales mechanism and the e-sale system, which rates dates and adjusts the sales process and prices.
Events associated with the festival were launched Sunday, where many programs reflected the lives of farmers and included a special presentation on the Heritage Village.
Visitors can enjoy access to an interactive fountain, a public theater, children’s games and the landscaping.
The Folk Village at the Central Environmental Park of King Abdullah in Al-Ahsa portrayed the reality of the lives of farmers in Al-Ahsa and tells the story through the use of agriculture products.
These products are displayed in a number of shops and corridors between vendor stalls and among different wicker crafts that portray the intimate relationship between the dates and wicker, both of which are the products of palm trees.
Wicker is used to harvesting dates, as well as during the cleaning process to maintain dates at various stages.
