Trance maestro Ferry Corsten, who has been very busy this year playing festivals, traveling for shows and tied down as a poppa with the arrival of a new member of his family, revealed exclusively to Arab News that he has put aside any plans for an album this year to focus on producing single dance tracks.
“Right now I’m just in that phase where I want to make tracks that are effective for the dance floor, for the radio maybe. And eventually I’ll put stuff together for an album, but right now I’ve put the album philosophy on hold for a little while,” he said.
“Because the thing with an album is that you really have to sit there with your album head on, all the tracks have to somehow work together to become a cohesive unit. You’ll be working on a track where you’re putting in a lot of time and effort, you’re polishing it here and there to make it more beautiful and you know it will be one of those tracks that just can’t figure on the album. Waste of time. And I don’t have much time to waste …”
With the electronic dance music (EDM) floodgates having opened up in the United States, Corsten may be feeling the pressure to produce chart material in the US without compromising the essence of his sound that has seen him hailed as one part of the “Trance Trinity” for decades.
“There’s something big going on in the States. I would actually like to produce that one record that is so cool and therefore so commercial, but still so cool that it just gets there without sounding very commercial. You know what I mean. That’s definitely one big goal.”
Whether that's sarcasm or not, only time will tell.
