A German railway delegation from Bavaria on Tuesday ended its two-day visit to the Kingdom to identify areas of cooperation between companies and institutions of the two countries.
The delegation, comprising representatives from 14 Bavarian companies, held a round-table meeting with local businessmen and high-ranking officials Wednesday at the Dammam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Saudi capital on Sunday.
“Germany has a globally recognized experience and could be a strategic partner in the development of the railway sector in Saudi Arabia,” said Andreas Hergenroether, delegate of German industry in Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
The delegation met in the Saudi capital on Sunday with officials of the Ministry of Transportation, Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), Saudi Railway Organization (SRO) and the Saudi Railway Company (SRC). Hergenroether said: “We are very delighted indeed to welcome the first Bavarian business delegation in the field of railways following the visit of a delegation headed by German Minister of Transport Dr. Peter Ramsauer to Riyadh in 2012 and the subsequent visit of a high-ranking Saudi business delegation to the world’s biggest logistics fair in Munich in June 2013.”
He said the Ministry of Transport is promoting further policy changes not only to encourage people to use public transport but also to streamline various modes of transportation available in the Kingdom.
Hergenroether said the Bavarian delegation “is honored to work together with the Ministry of Transport and Saudi organizations in the railway sector to identify fields of cooperation as the Saudi Arabian railway sector brings great opportunities for German companies.”
He said that Germany continues to be a strong partner of the Saudi economy, as it is the third most important supplier to the Kingdom and currently several German companies are actively engaged in Saudi projects providing technological know-how.
