The dengue fever has been fully brought under control in Jeddah, said a top health official.
“The number of cases has dropped from 100 last year to five last week,” Sami Ba-Dawood, director of Jeddah Health Affairs, told Arab News.
He said the Ministry of Health would continue its efforts to wipe out dengue from the region.
No deaths have been reported, he said.
“We have also deployed field inspection teams that visit the families of the patients and counsel them of preventive and curative methods for treating dengue,” he said,
The ministry has also been carrying out an organized public awareness campaign against the disease.
Another health official, meanwhile, confirmed three new cases of the novel coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in the Kingdom, including two deaths.
The total number of cases in the Kingdom has reached 107, causing 49 deaths in several parts of the country, said the official from the Ministry of Health.
A 75-year-old woman died in Madinah, while an 83-year-old man, who also suffered from chronic diseases, died in Riyadh.
The third case is that of a 35-year-old male citizen in Madinah who came into contact with a confirmed case of this virus and who is currently at the ICU undergoing treatment.
The World Health Organization said on Sept. 7 that it has been informed of 114 cases of MERS infection worldwide, of which 54 fatalities.
