Aluminium Bahrain BSC (Alba)’s board of directors and the GCC Board Directors Institute (BDI) held a workshop on effective board practices in Bahrain on Monday.
This is the second time the BDI has developed a tailored program for Alba’s board of directors. The program brought the directors through a series of modules on board composition and directors’ capabilities, core roles of the board, as well as directors’ duties and responsibilities. A Certificate of Appreciation has been awarded to Al-Kooheji and Alba’s Board in recognition of their leadership and commitment to enhancing board effectiveness.
Alba’s place as an industrial giant has been shaped by a 40-year legacy as the first aluminum smelter in the Middle East and the center of a thriving ecosystem for the aluminum sector in Bahrain.
Commenting on the workshop, the chairman of Alba’s Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al-Kooheji said: “Alba’s operations have been guided by a commitment to increasingly strengthen transparency and corporate governance across all levels of the organization.
The workshop for the board of directors proved to be an effective vehicle in promoting these values and in supporting members of the board to deliver on performance and leadership.”
The Executive Director of the BDI, Nathalie Potvin, said: “We are honored to be working with Alba on this program, which demonstrates their strong leadership and commitment to nurturing a culture of effective corporate governance practices.”
Since its inception in 2007, BDI has established itself as the leading organization in the Gulf for boards and board of directors’ development. The institute counts more than 350 members and has held several workshops on effective board practices.
