Some 500 Saudi women will display their home products and services at a five-day exhibition to open in Riyadh on Sunday.
Riyadh. Gov. Prince Khaled bin Bandar will open the show at the Riyadh Exhibition Center.
The event, dubbed “Home and Investment Expo,” is being organized by the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with other government and non-governmental bodies.
The event provides an opportunity for women to earn their living from home, said RCCI Secretary General, Muhammad Al-Kuthairy.
“We have received an unprecedented response from female participants, who have showed a great interest in marketing their home-produced products in order to earn their own income from investments.”
“We will also help these businesswomen find capital through various financial houses in the city of Riyadh,” he said.
Mansour Al-Shathry, chairman of the board of trustees at the RCCI, said the program encourages Saudi women to pursue self-employment from their homes.
Huda Al-Jeraisy, head of the Women’s Department at the RCCI, said the Riyadh governor would launch a website, which would help participants, as well as buyers, to purchase and sell home-made products.
The RCCI is coordinating with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to arranging licenses for these projects so that producers could market them, Al-Jeraisy said.
“We have also arranged with the Saudi Post to deliver goods to customers at nominal charges,” she said.
Some of the products to be displayed include fashion accessories, handicraft, perfumes, incense, food items, pots and pans, decoration items, hand-made flowers and services such photography.
