The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) intends to establish four colleges to train Saudis for the tourism sector.
Abdulaziz Al-Hazza, director of training and professional specifications, said Saudization is at 27 percent in tourism while only 12 percent in the private sector as a whole.
The four colleges would train Saudi youths for the hotel industry, for positions in reception, management and other services. He said there are Saudi workers currently in these positions.
Al-Hazza said an estimated 117,000 Saudis work for hotels and travel agencies.
Ahmad Al-Habash, regional director for human resource management at the Intercontinental hotel group, said 20,000 Saudis work in room service and laundry positions. He said there are jobs for 300 young men at the group’s various hotels, some of which are in the kitchens and room service.
He said the hotel chain does not have many Saudi employees who want these jobs. “We’ve tried to push Saudi youths to take up these positions because they have priority over others.” He said there are other administrative jobs available for young men.
