Kingdom does not send Haj invitations to presidents

An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Saudi Arabia never sends official invitations for Haj, as the pilgrimage is an important pillar of Islam and a religious duty.
He said this in response to a question regarding several Islamic leaders performing Haj this year.
“The Kingdom receives a number of leaders of Islamic countries annually who desire to perform Haj in accordance with their circumstances.
“The Kingdom, within the framework of its services to the pilgrims, provides the facilities which enable pilgrims to perform Haj rituals easily and comfortably,” the official said.
Some media sources had reported earlier that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has invited the Iranian President Hassan Rowhani to perform Haj this year.
