IISJ triumphs in Inter-School Basketball Tournament

JEDDAH: The International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) basketball team dominated their opponents en route to winning the Inter-School Basketball Regional Tournament crown, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and hosted by the International Indian School, Riyadh, recently.
In the final IISJ scored a hard-earned 51-43 over International Indian School,Dammam.
Schools from Jeddah, Riyadh, Jubail and Dammam took part in this knockout tourney. The victors are set to lock horns with tough competitors from all across India at the All India CBSE Basketball National Tournament to be held at the John Milton Public School, Nehru Enclave, Shamshabad Road, Rajpur, Agra during the latter half of December.
The IISJ’s performance remained stunning throughout this event. They got off to a flying start when they routed Delhi Public School (Riyadh), 54-26. In their second outing against International Indian School, Jubail, the Jeddah side once again stole the limelight with their splendid performance and scored a thumping 92-40 win to make the last four stage.
The semifinal against the International Indian School, Riyadh (IISR) proved to be a see-saw battle with both teams giving very little away. However, IISJ coach Mohammad Ameeruddin changed tactics in the second half, which saw his team hold sway and oust their rivals. Captain Fahd, Ahmad, Saif and Osama displayed great coordination and worked in tandem to steer their team through to the final. In the final, the IISJ had to work hard for their 51-43 victory over International Indian School, Dammam (IISD) to bag the title.
According to coach Ameeruddin, the team has started preparing for the All Indian CBSE Basketball National Tournament. “We are working hard to prove our mettle in Agra as well,” he said.
The team selected for the Indian tour includes: Fahd (Captain), Osama (Vice-Captain), Saif, Ahmad, Mahad, Faizan, Haseeb, Jeremy, Shamshad, Keenan Wroughton, Adnan Feroze, Abdullah Zubair and coach Mohammad Ameeruddin.
