In a down the wire finish RSTP-Tennis Pro won via points 2-2 (27-26) against a fighting DP World in their category MMX encounter to book its place in the semifinals, while JRTC-Tuffs had an easier time to dispose of SPTC in three sets for a seat in the B2 category semifinals in the 5th ALBAIK Tennis Tournament 2013.
Hidada-1 had to make good in the final set to prevent a late rally by SPTC to win the match 2-2 (29-22) and move to the next round of their category C match.
Reem Riviera-Uricane was so far the most successful as its categories C and LMX entries advanced to the semis after defeating separate opponents.
Red Sea Tennis Players’ Tennis Pro team started like wildfire as it took the first set with Domelo Gesto and Zaid Fahmi Ahmed decisioned Rad Montero and Lito Mosquera 8-6 which was followed by Yul and Bonnie Zafra’s second set 8-4 victory against Arnel and Gil Tingabngab to post a 2-0 lead.
But DP World countered to take the third set with Dominic Dadal and Joel Chan winning 8-6 over Randy Martin and Dondon Alcantara. Conrad Matias and Choy Argarin then defeated Tonton Pana and Agot Delas Alas 8-5 to tie the match at 2-2, but Tennis Pro was declared the winner via points 27-26 ending DP’s semis hopes.
Jeddah Ranao Tennis Club’s JRTC-Tuffs had everything falling into place in a 3-0 win against Samahang Pinoy Tennis Club (SPTC) in category B2. Jimmy Usman and Mohd Noor Halil routed Cizzner Carrascal and Romy Sorra 8-1 then Lao and Sammy Macapaar beat Allan Pernia and Joey Manalo 8-6 score before Noroden and Tuffs Laguindab sealed the victory with an 8-5 win over Celso Abella and Norwin Catipay.
In the C category, Hidada-1 outlasted SPTC to win via points. First set had Hidada’s Dave Bengco and Joseph Deapara winning 8-2 against Danny Baylosis and Eleazar Baltar. Second set saw SPTC’s Mario Betorio and Pol Fernandez winning 8-6 over Elmer Sagales and Rico Arenas. Third set was again controlled by SPTC with Ben Micu and Waymor Carmelotes defeating Ryan Boquiren and Romy Telfo via tie-break 8-7. Fourth set was won by Hidada’s Melchor Uy and Pons Hernandez against Roy Timtiman and Darwin Pizarro at 8-4 to tie the match at 2-2 with a points lead of 29-22.
Also winning a quarterfinals match was Uricane Tennis Club’s Reem Riviera in e category C after it defeated RSTP-MTTS in straight sets 3-0. Uricane’s category LMX team also moved to the semis with a 2-1 lead and enough points to secure the win against JRTC-Acmad.
