Several Saudi and Arab artists will auction 72 of their creations here on Thursday that have been on display at the Rochan Gallery for the past four days.
Najla’a Felemban, an artist and founder of Arabian Wings, said: “Art lovers in the Gulf and worldwide will get an opportunity to bid for and acquire the work of various well-known Arab artists.”
Lina Lazzar, a contemporary art specialist from Sotheby’s Al-Madad Foundation and director for the Middle East, who was present at the gallery, told Arab News that she was “excited by the excellent collection.”
“I was quite surprised at the quality work of the artists, the venue, layout and the display. There are a few artists over here I’m eyeing and it will be very exciting to bid for their work,” she said. Another visitor, Fouad Nabil Al-Bira, executive manager of Namlah company, said he loves art and was excited by the work of the Saudi artists.
“There is an Arabian touch to this artwork. I like a number of pieces especially the photos and oil paintings,” he said.
The owner of Rochan gallery, Talal Kurdi, said Arabian Wings came up with the idea of the showcase.
“This is an excellent collection of art by Arabian Wings. They have made a lot of effort to bring all the artists together under one roof. I hope the auction will be a very successful event,” he said.
The top works on sale include Khaled Bin Afif’s “Not for Sale,” which has caused controversy in the media. There are several drawings, photographs, bronze sculptures and signed prints from well-established artists including Wajih Nahle, Saud Mahjoub, Bakr Shaykhun, Ahmed Keshta, Hassan Meer, Fatma Lootah, May Al-Saad and Mohammed Abu Al-Naga.
