The Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah commemorated Mother’s Day at its premises on Monday. The event was attended by a large number of people from the Indonesian community.
Speaking at the event, Indonesian Consul General Dharmakirty Syailendra Putra said Mother’s Day has become a national occasion in Indonesia. The event is commemorated on regular basis in public offices nationwide as well as in the country’s diplomatic premises across the world. The envoy said that Indonesian women are an asset to their country as they have the potential to contribute in national development.
The envoy said, “Today, a large number of women hold strategic positions in Indonesia which impact society in many ways through the roles they play. This proves that if women are given a chance, they can become the drivers and agents of change.”
He said that Indonesian women have always enjoyed gender equality in their country which underlines their equal share in tasks and responsibilities with the men.
Mother’s Day is celebrated internationally in May or March every year to honor mothers, motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society.
The event began with the National Anthem of Indonesia and a brief reading on the importance of Mother’s Day. Speakers highlighted the mother’s role in society. A series of games activities including gift-wrapping competition were also held. The event concluded with prayers.
