Erdogan and graft scandal

The reaction of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the graft scandal has surprised many. I fail to understand as to why did he react in this manner. He could have set a new example by supporting the corruption probe. If there is some conspiracy, he should have dealt with it in a reasonable manner.
Turkish economy has made giant strides under Erdogan’s rule. It is possible that some elements may be on the prowl to undo what he has done for his country. Erdogan should tread very carefully and must not allow unscrupulous elements succeed in their attempts to destabilize Turkey.
Anyway, Erdogan’s handling of the issue is undoubtedly questionable. Instead of firing the police chief, he should have ordered probe into the matter. If those arrested during the operation are guilty, they should be taken to task. If we believe, for a moment, that it was a conspiracy against the government, still Erdogan’s reaction is unwarranted and will only benefit his critics and the opposition groups. — Abdullah Khan, Jeddah
