The SmartCity Kochi (SCK), the knowledge hub promoted by Dubai’s Tecom Investments in the Indian port city, is conducting a road show in Bangalore to attract entrepreneurs.
The SCK is setting up a futuristic 246-acre knowledge hub to house information communication technology, media, finance, research and innovation giants, officials said.
Its first block is expected to be ready by the yearend.
To be held at Leela Palace, senior officials from TECOM and SCK will attend the show, which is expected to reveal a number of new partnerships and agreements with SCK and its partners.
Oommen Chandy, chief minister of the state, said SCK, in which the state is a minority stakeholder, has the potential to take the IT aspirations of Kerala to new heights and it was fast emerging as one of the “proud symbols” of Kerala’s development initiatives.
“I am sure that the SmartCity road-show will unveil many avenues of opportunities to prospective stakeholders, enabling them to come here, one of the most harmonious destinations for doing business in India. I look forward to rewarding partnerships as part of this road-show,” Chandy said.
Earlier, the Dubai-based GEMS Education had announced their first South Indian campus in SCK offering an international kindergarten to 12th grade curriculum. It is likely to announce more deals at the show being held in India’s Silicon Valley.
“Now, with the new signings in Bangalore, the project is gaining an added impetus,” an official statement from the firm said.
“Once complete, SCK01 will be one of the largest LEED Platinum-rated IT buildings in India as all of the forthcoming structures coming up here are being developed as environment-friendly by protecting the local flora and fauna”.
Bangalore-based Synergy Property Development Services is the consultant for PMC services and B+H, an internationally renowned Canada-based architect was signed for the master plan development and for providing architectural and detailed engineering services for the first IT building.
It will also supervise associated off-site facilities and infrastructure development, such as bridges, roads, power receiving and distribution, water supply, waste management, environmental protection.
“The contract for civil and structural work of the first IT building of 650,000 sq. ft. is under finalization and is expected to be awarded in a weeks’ time. We are expecting the first IT building to be operational by December 2014,” it said.
