The Housing Ministry announced that it would begin receiving applications for housing aid on March 7 across provinces in the country.
“The ministry is currently constructing 17,188 housing units covering all of the Kingdom’s provinces, aside from developing land for 46,000 units,” read a posting on the ministry’s Twitter account on Tuesday.
The ministry is also planning the development of more plots to build 103,000 more residential units, the message said.
This shows that a total of 166,000 housing units would be made available shortly for the public, either in the form of finished houses or loans for purchasing or building their own homes.
Housing Minister Showaish Al-Dowaihi has said that housing projects and aid schemes are designed to fulfill the desire of Saudi families to acquire homes, with priority given to families most in need.
“The ministry’s portal enables any citizen to apply for a home. Citizens have to fill out the online forms. Departments will then check the information provided. They will also ensure eligibility based on priority,” he said.
Applicants should be married and be over the age of 25, be financial supporters of a family and should not be a member of a family that has acquired a house within five years of the date of application.
In addition, applicants should not be members of families that have received governmental aid or aid for private housing.
Women are eligible to apply for a house if they are financially supporting their family. This includes widows and divorcees.
Considerations for priority include the number of dependent family members, age, social status and special health needs, in addition to the waiting period of previous applications.
