Jeddah police have arrested an Indian man who confessed to beating and killing a fellow Indian with a blunt object before setting his body on fire.
Police officers and forensic experts at the Kandra police station reported to the scene of the crime on Tuesday morning on receiving information that a charred body had been found on the terrace of a building in the Kandra district.
Police were able to determine the identity of the victim and arrest the alleged murderer within 24 hours of the crime taking place.
According to police, the suspect and the victim worked in different jobs. The suspect had lured the victim to his residential building, where he then killed him.
Nawaf Al-Bouq, Jeddah police spokesman, said that the suspect confessed to the crime narrated to the police the sequence of events.
He said an argument about an old dispute between them had erupted earlier in the day of the crime.
According to his confession, he beat the victim to death with an iron rod, hitting him repeatedly on the head. After his death, the suspect took the body from his room to the building’s terrace and set it on fire.
Both the dead man and his alleged killer were residing legally in the Kingdom.
Maj. Gen. Abdul Aziz Alsoli, chief constable of the Makkah region, had directed a team of security officers with experience in complex murder cases to launch an investigation into the incident under the supervision of Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Qahtani, director of the Jeddah police. The team was formed due to difficulties encountered in identifying the body and a lack of information about the case.
Initial investigations have been completed and the case file has been referred to the Department of Investigation and Prosecution.
