A recent study submitted to the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has said that 92 percent of Saudi restaurants in various parts of the Kingdom function under poor conditions.
Most of these restaurants pay little or no attention to general hygiene standards and use untrained workers.
The study showed that over 55 percent of employees of these restaurants don’t have health cards and 22 percent work in professions not specified in their residency permits.
A source said there are around 200 conditions imposed on restaurants, buffets and food sales stores. Campaigns carried out by municipalities and secretariats confirmed the need to review the current situation and application of new rules and regulations should start next year, the source said.
