Why no sanctions on Israel?

On slapping sanctions on Iraq, former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said, “Saddam’s goal is to achieve the lifting of UN sanctions while retaining and enhancing Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program. We cannot, we must not and we will not let him succeed.”
Then followed the US invasion of Iraq; did it find any so-called WMD? No! In responding to Albright’s statement then British MP George Galloway said, “I am an opponent of Saddam Hussein, but an opponent also of the sanctions that have killed a million Iraqi children. And I reiterate I am an opponent of United State’s apparent desire to plunge the Middle East into a new and devastating war.” Yes, as predicted that is what happened and it is continuing.
I would like to ask a question. Why the world powers have slapped no sanctions on Israel for the atrocities it routinely commits against the Palestinians in the occupied land. On the contrary the US best ally is being rewarded with generous financial aid, military assistance and vetoes to defend it on countless occasions, in the UN Security Council.
The western powers are on the move against Russia and reportedly are mulling sanctions against Moscow. This will have devastating effects on EU countries and it will be extremely difficult for the US to obtain EU approval. We should keep our fingers crossed, as an interested battle is under way.
I hope that the US — for a change — impose sanctions on its best friend Israel for its defiance. — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
