Educationists from India are opening a new school here to cater for the increasing number of parents seeking places for their children.
The United India International School, Riyadh (UIISR) would have a “professional and dedicated team with good experience in launching and running schools in Riyadh,” Abdul Azeem, the school’s advisory committee member, said on Thursday.
He said that some of the people involved are working at local universities, with one official being the former supervisor of a popular weekend school in Riyadh.
The school has also employed Umar Shariff, the former director of Unity Schools, a renowned group of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools in Chennai, India, as a director of the school, he said.
Azeem said the school would cater for the increasing need of the Indian and expatriate community in Riyadh for better schooling for their children “in a friendly and healthy atmosphere where nurturing positive values and imparting scientific knowledge go hand in hand.”
He said that many parents have not been able to get places for their children at community schools. “The opening of the UIISR will provide solace for worried parents,” he said.
He said that the first year would be limited to nursery and lower grades, but would be upgraded every year until it provides higher secondary CBSE teaching.
The school will have all the facilities for the targeted age groups with a special focus on Arabic and English, and Qur’an recitation and memorization taught by Arab teachers.
The curriculum would encompass moral and ethical values, Islamic perspectives, scientific inquiry, and development of social and literary skills, he said.
He said the founders are now waiting for final approval from the Ministry of Education.
